In order to facilitate the oil tank filling, STIHL has developped an exclusive system of opening and closing without tools.  The filling action can be easily done, and in a sure way because this concept guarantees a perfect sealing.

• Single-lever master control

All important functions such as start, choke, throttle and stop are operated via a single lever.  This command is then very convenient and safe. Moreover, located on the left of the rear handle, it is accessible with the tip of the thumb without being obliged to release the handle.

• Compensator

This controller in the carburettor prevents the fuel-air mixture getting richer as the air filter becomes clogged. This keeps the fuel/air ratio in the combustion mixture constant and hence also the engine power. The filter doesn’t need to be cleaned until an appreciable drop in power occurs.

• Return automatic decompressor

The decompressor reduces the engine compression when starting-up. It is easier to start and more comfortable. The decompressor is a valve located on the top of the cylinder. When we open it during start-up, it frees a part of the pressure in the cylinder. At the first combustion, it closes the first combustion to allows the engine to delivers its power.

• Ematic system

The STIHL Ematic system reduces the consumption of chain oil by up to 50 %, depending on the type of wood and the cutting attachment used. This system comprises a STIHL Ematic or Ematic S guide bar, a STIHL Oilomatic saw chain and a variable-flow or reduced-flow oil pump. As a result, virtually every drop of chain lubricant is delivered to exactly the right spot.

• Controlled-delivery oil pump

Permits a precise optimisation of the oil flow rate depending on needs.  The setting on the E mark guarantees a sufficient oil flow rate. Professionals proceed to a more precise metering. It is possible to make up to 50% of oil flow rate reduction.

• Anti-vibration system

In order to reduce vibrations at the level of handles, STIHL developed an anti-vibration system (AV) really efficient. The engine and cutting device are totally suspended from the handles, whether it is by springs or elastomeric bumpers, or by a mix of those two components. As a result, the working comfort is better which reduces blood circulation problems in hands or arms.

• Stratified scavenging engine

At the entrance, a clean air layer, without fuel, fits between burnt gases in the combustion chamber and the fresh mixture from the bottom-engine. It reduces fuel-air mixture losses during scavenging – and it also reduces harmful effects on human health and the environment. The engine is environmentally friendly and reduces its consumption by 20%.  Gas emissions are reduced by 50%.

• Side-mounted chain tensioning

Located on the side of the engine, the chain tensioner avoids any contact with the chain or the claw during chain tension.  It makes it easy to tension the chain safely.

• ElastoStart STIHL

Elastostart is made up of a shock absorber located between the rope and the starter handle. The damping element in the ElastoStart special starter grip alternately absorbs and releases force according to the compression pattern. The result is smooth, the starting is easy. This STILH element will bring you comfort and safety.

•  HD2 filter

This HD2 filter is made of polyethylene and has up to 70% fine pores, compared to a membrane filter or a polyamide filter. This air filter keeps even the finest dust away from the engine. It is also water repellent, oil resistant and the filter can easily be cleaned.
